About the business

Lycée Condorcet Sydney (LCS) is the French international school of Sydney. We currently enrol 1050 students from Maternelle (2,5 yo) to Y12 and employ more than 150 teaching and non-teaching staff. About the role

Approved by the French Education Ministry and the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), the school is looking for a full-time Primary School Librarian starting 17 August 2020.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Primary School, the Primary School Librarian's responsibilities is in charge of organising the library, managing book loans and events related to school projects.

Details of the duties:

  • If required by the Primary School Director, attend meetings with the pedagogical team
  • Make sure the library is pleasant, welcoming for visitors and methodical way
  • Enrol and welcome students, make them want to read and create an habit
  • Welcome families, listen and understand their expectations
  • Help students to choose and put away books in the library
  • Write and display in an effective manner rules and regulations of the library
  • Teach students to conduct literature and documentary research
  • Support and guide teachers and students in their research
  • Lead themed sessions related to books, reading and school projects 
  • Manage and develop documentary collections and implement book loans
  • Attend and assist to organise school events (visits from writers, Christmas market, school fete, welcoming author at school...)
  • Organise (with the Primary School Director) and present a monthly calendar of events in the library (August: back at school – September: Spring – etc.)
  • Put together a teachers' pedagogical library
  • Manage the library's budget
  • Manage any administrative tasks

Salary:

As per the Multi Enterprise Agreement 2017 (Support and Operational Staff) - School Assistants Level 4.

This position will be stood down during school holidays (38 hours / week – 36 weeks).

It is an offence under the NSW Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998 for a person convicted of a serious sex offence to apply for these positions.

Skills and experience

The perfect candidate will have:

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years' experience in the similar position
  • Knowledge of the BCDI system will be a strong advantage
  • Ability to cooperate effectively within a team
  • Excellent ICT and communication skills (oral and written, in French and English); must be fluent in French (oral and written)
  • Good knowledge of youth literature for children aged 3 to 11
  • Capacity to constantly research and anticipate renewal orders
  • Ability to target relevant information
  • Good knowledge of the DEWEY classification system
  • Be constantly up to date with technological innovations
  • Make visible and readable the classification "Marguerite" to students
  • Full Working rights
  • Working With Children Check Certificate
  • Child Protection Training Certificate
  • First Aid Certificate - desirable
