PhD Scholarship: The epidemiology of skin cancer in Tasmania over 40 years

The research project

Skin cancers are the most common cancers in Australia affecting more than half of all Australians by age 70. Most of these cancers are non-melanoma skin cancers that are not routinely captured by population-based cancer registries or reported in annual cancer statistics. This PhD will support a project to establish more reliable methods of collecting information on skin cancers diagnosed in Tasmania and will analyse incidence and mortality trends over 40 years. By improving our understanding of the epidemiology of skin cancer we aim to find ways to reduce the burden of this common condition for individuals and the health system.

The following eligibility criteria apply to this project:

• The project is open to Australian (domestic) and International candidates
• The PhD must be undertaken on a full-time basis
• Applicants must already have been awarded a first class Honours degree or hold equivalent qualifications or relevant and substantial research experience in an appropriate sector
• Applicants must have a health science background

Ideally candidates will have relevant experience and interest in one of more of the following: epidemiology, biostatistics, cancer or dermatology research.

Candidates from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
