Ref No. 1624/15

  • Hawkesbury Campus
  • Remuneration Package $79,656 to $96,237
  • Full-Time, Fixed-Term Appointment for 3 Years

The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE), one of four institutes within Western Sydney University, and it offers a unique suite of world-class field- and laboratory-based research facilities, including the Eucalyptus Free-Air CO2 Enrichment experiment in nearby native vegetation, large whole-tree chambers, rain-exclusion shelters, glasshouse facilities and eddy covariance systems.

The Institute includes 57 academic staff who are supported by 20 skilled technical and support staff. Our staff work collaboratively across experimental platforms, forming teams with relevant expertise, including both experimental and modelling expertise. The Institute also has a strong data management policy overseen by a full-time data manager. Researchers are conducting a wide range of experiments examining responses of vegetation to environmental and climatic factors including atmospheric CO2 concentration, temperature and drought. Our internationally-recognised ecosystem modelling team, led by Professor Belinda Medlyn and Dr Remko Duursma, uses these data to develop evidence-based models of terrestrial vegetation function under global change.

We are now seeking to appoint a talented post-doctoral fellow (Level A) to join our ecosystem modelling team. This 3-year, full-time appointment will contribute to data analysis, data-model synthesis and model development. The overarching aim of the position is to assist in the development of a new terrestrial vegetation model with a focus on Australian ecosystems.
