This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced academic mentor specialising in statistics, to join a vibrant and supportive school within the Faculty of Science. A fully accomplished scholar in your own right, will provide you with the opportunity to build and mentor the next generation of academics in the discipline.

Whilst close to half of graduates from STEM fields are women, there is a significant underrepresentation of women in senior academic roles in these fields.

UTS has a strong tradition in Statistics, and you will complement and enhance the existing research strengths centered on the research groups of Distinguished Professors Louise Ryan and Matt Wand, as well as developing your own research directions and portfolio.

The Mathematical Sciences Discipline at UTS consists of a dynamic group of researchers, which is growing rapidly through a series of strategic hires in the areas of Statistics and Data Science.  This role forms one of three positions (we are also recruiting two Lecturer/Senior Lecturer posts) in the discipline of Statistics to continue to meet the growing student demand across a number of Faculties and Schools 

This is an integrated position, where you will play a key role in teaching and development of current academic programs within the Discipline, as well as in existing or new collaborative programs with other faculties or units in the University. You will be actively involved in developing and teaching subjects within your specialisation, integrating research into the teaching program, engaging in and promoting innovative teaching practices in line with the UTS model of learning. 

Our expectation is that you will participate in coordinating and delivering undergraduate classes at all levels, and will contribute to the development of the curriculum in Mathematics and Statistics. You will also contribute to the management duties of the School and Faculty, commensurate with the role of Professor. The School encourages both pure research and outwardly focussed research with impact in business and society. 

While candidates from all areas of Statistics are encouraged to apply, the Discipline is particularly seeking applicants who can lead innovation in research in statistical methodology and/or computational statistics, and with a strong track record in applications-oriented research.

You will receive solid support from the institution in regard to research and you will also be able to avail of opportunities to conduct research with reputed scholars from across the University through interdisciplinary research centres at UTS.

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $185,713 pa (Level E)

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary.

The University is a family-friendly workplace and offers employees a wide range of work options including flexible work practices, work-based child care centres (places subject to availability), generous parental leave and support  for staff with carer responsibilities. 

This appointment would normally be on a continuing full-time basis, however other more flexible arrangements could be considered.
