Director - Childcare Centre

Council is seeking a Director - Childcare Centre and applications will be received until 7 November 2014.

The Director will oversee the day by day operations of the Longreach Childcare Centre in relation to staffing, room allocations, WH&S, National Quality Framework under supervision of the Manager of Children’s Services. The Director will adhere to and maintain all regulatory requirements under the Education and Care Services Nation Law and Education and Care Services Regulation (2011) and National Quality Frame Work.

Position Requirements
Essential Experience/Qualifications

1. Early Childhood Qualification of Diploma of Children’s Services or higher.
2. Comprehensive understanding of Childcare Legislation and National Quality Framework for Long Day Care.
3. Suitability Notice (Blue Card) through Public Safety Business Agency.
4. Current Apply First Aid, First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis and Emergency Management of Asthma in the Workplace certificates.

Preferred/Desirable Experience/Qualifications

5. Enthusiasm, energy and initiative.
6. Preferred at least 5 years experience in early childhood profession.
7. Ability to work collaboratively within a team situation.
8. Willingness to participate in all aspects of the daily operations of Childcare Services.

Key Responsibilities of Position Working with children and their families:

  • Ensure the safety and hygiene of the childcare complex at all times for children and parents.
  • Maintain in conjunction with Senior Educators and Administration Staff comprehensive and confidential records on each child and parent/guardian.
  • Keep the Manager of Children’s Services informed of the need for equipment and resources for effective implementation of the program.
  • Ensure regular safety and hygiene checks indoors and outdoors are conducted at regular intervals to maintain maximum safety for children, parents, visitors and staff.
  • Conduct interviews and orientation tours with all parents/guardians applying for care.
  • Promote and encourage parent/guardian involvement in the complex.
  • Maintain effective and regular communication with parents through both direct and indirect measures.
  • Be accessible and approachable in order that parents may discuss concerns, ideas and suggestions in a confident manner.

Working with staff:

  • Demonstrate, promote and maintain a collaborative approach to the working environment.
  • Oversee the daily supervision of all childcare centre staff with respect to adherence to Childcare Regulations, Policy and Practice documents, National Quality Framework.
  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of Children’s Services to ensure optimal outcomes in service delivery incorporating both staff and client satisfaction.
  • Be receptive to staff concerns, ideas and suggestions and bring these to the attention of the Manager of Children’s Services where appropriate.
  • Oversee individuals working in the Complex in the role of volunteers or work experience students to ensure the contribution of such people is productive for all staff members and children.
  • Make recommendations for staff changes to the Manager of Children’s Services and work cooperatively in the recruitment, orientation and support of all staff.
  • Promote and assist in maintaining a scrupulously clean environment at all times.
  • Ensure adherence to staff: child ratios at all times.
  • Orient new staff to all aspects of their role, the physical environment and other personnel.
  • Be involved in Staff Appraisals at regular intervals in line with National Quality Framework standards.
  • Assist in determining staff needs for Professional Development and personally attend training and professional development days.

Other responsibilities and duties:

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding matters with in the Service.
  • Work in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Law (2011); Education and Care Services Nation Regulations (2011); National Quality Framework Processes; and WH&S Act.
  • Work according to the Centre’s Policy and Procedures at all times.
  • Keep abreast of current issues that impact of the Children’s Services Industry.
  • Be familiar with medical, emergency and accident procedures.
  • Any other routine duties as directed by the Manager of Children’s Services, consistent with the general requirements of this position.
  • Contribute to social and community activities in relation to the service.
