About the opportunity
The Oncology Research Fellow Clinical Lead position is designed for a dynamic and motivated clinician-researchers with trials expertise and training. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and lead the development of new trial initiatives. As the Oncology Research Fellow Clinical Lead will have experience in engaging with and collaborating with industry and will be expected to lead and oversee investigator-initiated trials. You will direct and support the CTC’s collaborations, supervise clinical research fellows, work with clinical investigators, and support the CTC’s Oncology Trials Operations Staff. You are involved at a high level in all aspects and stages of clinical trial design and conduct.
The Oncology Research Fellow Clinical Lead provides strategic guidance and operational expertise to the groups’ research advisory committees, and play a major role in developing concepts, protocols, grant applications, trial reports, and other publications. You are also expected to have experience in the design and conduct of trials in neuro-oncology and will develop and lead clinical trial initiatives and methodological research of their own.
This position is part-time, for a fixed term of 12 months, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees, and with the possibility of further offers of employment. Applicants should be registered or eligible to register with the NSW medical board.

- registration (or is eligible for registration) with the NSW Medical Board
- completed specialty training in medical oncology
- been an active researcher with publications about clinical trials, targeted therapeutics, and/or molecular profiling
- lead a team(s) of clinical and/or laboratory cancer researchers
- Level C and D applicants will have a relevant post-graduate higher research degree, for example a PhD, or a Masters of Clinical Trials, Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health, or similar;
- Level D applicants will have established and lead a successful program of relevant research, and will have supervised candidates for higher degrees by research (Masters or PhD)
Candidates must be qualified medical doctors with experience and expertise in oncology.

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and is a research centre within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. CTC is a leader in the design, conduct, and reporting of multicenter, clinical trials in cancer and other diseases. It also researches trial methods and conducts systematic reviews.
The Cooperative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO) was established in 2007, to develop a central mechanism enabling a coordinated, structured approach to the management of large scale multi-centred neuro-oncology trials. COGNO is a member of the Cooperative Clinical Trials Groups of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA) and has a close working relationship with the COSA Neuro-Oncology Group. These groups are non-profit organisations developing and conducting multicenter clinical trials research.
