Flinders University is continuing its cuts and reforms.

The Adelaide-based university is consolidating its faculties., and has already given 200 professional staff and academics voluntary redundancies, and flagged further redundancies for about 30 library staff.

Flinders Vice Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling said the university was “disestablishing” 171 current roles, but would replace them with 171 new roles.

He said some staff would get better paid positions.

Professor Stirling said staff were being provided with the information “they have been asking for”.

“That's the process that we've been engaged in. We've done it under our agreement and I think that's fair and reasonable,” he said.

The National Tertiary Education Union has raised concerns about ongoing uncertainty for staff at Flinders.

But Professor Stirling said staff should not be concerned for their jobs.

“The vast majority of staff at Flinders, the vast majority of academic staff, the vast majority of professional staff, are on ongoing contracts, they are on contracts until they retire,” he said.
