About This Opportunity

The project will involve the development of a large database for genomic selection applied to the Australian beef industry. We will work in partnership with beef producers, CSIRO Agriculture, the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation, as well as the Department of Primary Industries in NT (DPI) to bring together a world-class team, rich phenotypic and genotypic information to develop new methods for genomic selection.

The research, funded by Meat and Livestock Australia, aims at developing a breakthrough platform for data management, data storage and data sharing for research purposes in the field of livestock genetics. This is a world first for tropical beef cattle and a fantastic opportunity for the candidate to develop a leadership role, among project collaborators. The candidate will be responsible for data management and data integrity as well as supporting the research scientists with data analyses of genomic datasets. Many datasets are already available in the research platform, but more will be submitted as this is an ongoing effort to capture industry information. The phenotypes target in this genomics research are primarily female fertility traits, but male fertility data and data on beef production traits are also available. The opportunity for innovative data analyses in this project is very exciting!
