About the role

This role presents an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic researcher with engineering experience in lab-on-chip microfluidics devices to join the newly established Initiative for Biomedical Materials & Devices (IBMD) within the Faculty of Science. IBMD aims to transform advances in photonics and materials into revolutionary biomedical technologies. IBMD are a unique team, carrying out interdisciplinary, international and industrial collaborative research that will meet end-users’ urgent needs.

This particular position is directly aligned to the establishment of IBMD's 5th research theme in single molecule sciences towards personalized medicine.  The single molecule theme will integrate cutting edge developments in single molecule tracking, super resolution imaging, molecular tweezers, sequencing techniques, and signal amplification techniques for cellular biology imaging, residue disease/molecule tracking, and cellular dynamics studies. This will decode the complexity of life machine, and provide precisely tailored medicine according to individuals' molecular signatures.

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • doctoral qualifications in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering with Postdoctoral research experience
  • previous experience in research in an area of relevance to microfluidics devices, free-space optical microscopy, super resolution nanoscopy systems, sequencing technology devices 
  • track record of peer reviewed publications
  • comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated expertise in one or several of these areas: biomechanical engineering, materials, sensing, nanofabrication, device physics, nanophotonics, and analytical biochemistry
  • expert knowledge of modelling, mechanical design and computer programming software including MATLAB, Solid Works, LabView

Remuneration & Benefits

Base Salary Range: $98,447 to $112,653 pa (Level B)

This role attracts 17%superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities. 

This appointment will be on a fixed-term, full-time basis for two years.
