Latest analysis by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations reveals that in just 12 months, the number of inner regional students receiving a Youth Allowance payment has risen by 4 250, an increase of 20 per cent.

 

During the same period, the number of outer regional and remote students receiving Youth Allowance has also risen by 2 150, an increase of 27 per cent.

 

Dependent students who move away from home to study typically receive more than $6 000 during a three year degree to assist with relocation costs.

 

Last week the Prime Minister released figures showing that an additional 21 000 university students now receive Youth Allowance since the Federal Government’s reforms to the Youth Allowance system.
