System Administrator


Are you passionate about leveraging technology to enhance educational experiences? Firbank Grammar School is seeking a talented System Administrator to join our team!

Based at our Brighton Senior Campus, you'll play a pivotal role in managing, maintaining, and innovating our IT infrastructure across all campuses.

As our System Administrator, you'll be at the helm of our IT operations, ensuring the seamless functionality of our cloud-based systems, bolstering security measures, and driving innovation. Collaborating closely with our Head of IT, Security, and Innovation, you'll align our technological initiatives with the school's strategic objectives, ultimately enriching the teaching and learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Infrastructure and Security: Manage and optimize our Azure-based cloud infrastructure, Google Cloud, and Linux systems. Implement and manage security protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Device Management: Oversee iPad and Mac devices using Apple School Manager and Microsoft Intune, ensuring seamless integration with our cloud infrastructure and robust security measures.
  • Technical Support: Provide timely and efficient technical support for hardware, software, and network issues, minimizing downtime and optimizing system performance.
  • Innovation and Emerging Technologies: Research, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions, including AI, IoT, edge computing to enhance system operations, security, and support the school's strategic initiatives, in collaboration with the Head of IT, Security, and Innovation.
  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain automate routine tasks and improve efficiency in system administration, leveraging tools like Microsoft Power Platform, PowerShell and Python.
  • Data Privacy and Protection:  Supporting the implementation of data protection controls to safeguard sensitive data by ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with stakeholders professionally, translating technical concepts into layman's terms and providing exemplary service and support.
  • Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Proactively identify areas for optimization, propose innovative solutions, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the IT department.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or a related field. 
  • 3+ years of system administration experience, preferably with cloud environments and high security standards. 
  • Strong understanding of Azure, Microsoft 365, Intune, Autopilot, and patch management. 
  • Experience in cloud migration and modernization strategies. 
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) for automation and system administration tasks. 
  • Experience collaborating with various departments and supporting their IT needs. 
  • Basic skills in network switch configuration. 
  • Familiarity with ITSM frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and ISMS standards (ASD Essential Eight, ISO 27001, NIST, CIS). 
  • Preferred certifications: CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft certifications (such as MS-102, SC-100, SC-400, MS-700, MD-102). 
  • Experience with security tools and practices (firewalls, encryption, vulnerability assessments) is a plus.
