About This Opportunity

The ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures will transform and improve the lives of Indigenous Australians by utilising Indigenous knowledges to enhance our understanding of the complex nature of intergenerational social inequity. The Centre's work will span across three key research themes: Law and Justice; Education and Economics; and Health and Wellbeing.

The CoE Deputy Director will be an academic leader with the responsibility of executing the strategic research direction of the Centre, in collaboration with the Director and the Centre Directorate, ensuring the Centre's research excellence.

Alongside the Centre Executive Committee, you will help establish and champion the Centre as a global leader in Indigenous social inequality research, provide research leadership within the three themes, and coordinate the strategic advancement of the Centre by identifying and applying for new major funding opportunities.

Additionally, you will also support the development of new initiatives and help manage ongoing relationships with key partners and stakeholders including government agencies, funding bodies and Indigenous community partners.

Indigenous researchers across Academic Levels C, D and E, with expertise in research contributing to Indigenous aspirations, development and positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, are encouraged to apply.

About You

Alongside a PhD and demonstrated expert knowledge in one of the three research streams, the successful candidate will have significant experience in leading the development of research programs relating to Indigenous social inequality and, ideally, will have administrative and managerial leadership experience.

To enable the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures to realise its vision, we're searching for a collaborative individual with excellent research leadership and supervisory skills, who has successful experience and outcomes in research underpinned by Indigenous methodologies.

As this Centre will be working with a range of community partners across Australia and internationally, from the Australian Human Rights Commission through to grassroots Indigenous organisations, highly developed interpersonal skills will be required to pivot your approach as required. As such, your knowledge of the critical issues relevant to the diverse circumstances of Indigenous people, as well as your experience in connecting with diverse communities will be key to your success in this role.

Candidates who do not meet all the selection criteria are still strongly encouraged to apply.
