About the Team
The Alfred Cardiothoracic Surgery service provides a broad range of highly specialised procedures including, cardiac and pulmonary transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and pulmonary endarterectomy. The Service is a leader in transplantation and sees a significant thoracic workload, providing services to both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. In addition, the department consists of National and internationally recognised academics and operative surgeons, evidenced by publications and other scholarly achievements.
About the Role
The Research Nurse will support key research projects within the Cardiothoracic & Transplantation Department, supporting senior staff, contributing and increasing annual research outputs. This addition to the department will facilitate the continued progression of work, assisting principal investigators to plan, initiate and conduct their research, further supporting the research department as required. This role will require the successful applicant to be comfortable approaching patients to discuss trial enrolment, telephone questionnaires, follow-up data, including in-person visits when applicable. As one of Melbourne’s largest teaching hospitals, this position plays a vital role in expanding research activities, assisting the department toward academic objectives, and improving our national and international research profile.
Duties
- Coordinate single site and multicentre trials
- Provide progress reports and participate in regular meetings to discuss project objectives, methodology and outcomes
- Participate in team meetings and activities
- Design (planning and budgeting), conduct, and co-ordinate clinical-focused research projects of the department and its senior staff
- Work in close co-operation with other members of a project team and to maintain a good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders to achieve a high level of co-operation leading to project goals being achieved
Skills & Experience
- Registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Experience in coordinating clinical research and trials within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines
- Clinical trial research experience
