Deakin’s Faculty of Health is recognised in Australia and internationally for its teaching, training, research and service to its communities.

Working as part of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN), the Postdoctoral Research Assistant will be required to manage a randomised controlled trial comparing the effect of a novel supplement on strength training adaptations in the context of a strength training block. IPAN is located within Deakin’s School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, ranked #1 Sport Science School in Australia (ShanghaiRanking).

Relevant qualifications, demonstrated expertise in project management and high-level stakeholder engagement skills are key requirements for this pivotal position.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Implementing a randomised controlled trial of a novel dietary supplement to determine the impact of this supplement on strength training adaptations.
• Developing study materials (recruitment materials, peri-workout nutrition, diet diaries etc.).
• Developing and implementing testing protocols including DEXA, pQCT, strength testing, sleep and wellbeing monitoring, amongst others.
• Implementing and supervising a strength training protocol.
• Leading on the recruitment of participants and data collection.
• Mentoring/supervising undergraduate students.
• Analysis of research data.
• Writing and submitting manuscript to peer-review journals.
• Writing and submitting abstracts to national and international conferences.
• Writing research reports (Ethics, funding body).
• Submit ethics modifications when necessary.
• Coordination of the research project including monitoring and management of the budget.

To be successful, you’ll have:

• PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (strength and conditioning and/or nutrition) and/or other relevant qualifications.
• Experience in conducting human research trials and in managing research projects to successful completion in a timely manner.
• Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline.
• Capacity to lead research and administration.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
• Experience in performance testing and or nutrition monitoring. *Desirable
• Experience with wellbeing and sleep monitoring. *Desirable
• Experience with DEXA and or pQCT measures. *Desirable
