An exciting, new opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Scientist based in Madang, Papua New Guinea (PNG) on a full time and fixed term basis to 30 June 2023 ($67,010 - $110,981).

What you can accomplish in the role

You will have the unique experience of establishing and managing a vector control tool assessment programme for Papua New Guinea and the wider South Pacific region. The project you will be working on, is called, Newly Adapted Tools and Network Against Mosquito-borne Disease Transmission (NATNAT), and is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade via the International Vector Control Consortium.

 

Based full-time at the PNGIMR Vector-borne diseases unit in Madang in PNG, you’ll work alongside other scientific officers and technicians whom you will be supervising. PNGIMR is a well-known research institution with a strong focus on vector-borne diseases research that you will be contributing rewarding work towards.

 

What you will bring to the role

As a motivated and skilled scientist, you will bring a PhD in entomology, vector biology or related discipline and/or extensive skills and experience in entomology, insectary management and vector-borne tropical infectious diseases. To ensure your success in the role, you will be confident with supervising students and junior laboratory staff whilst working in a professional, ethical and culturally sensitive manner at all times.

 

Experience working in resource constrained settings and/or an excellent research publication record in a related discipline, will be highly regarded, however is not essential to thrive in this unique role.
