About This Opportunity

The School of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Research Fellow to join the team supporting a range of interdisciplinary research activities associated with chemical engineering and industry in the area of surface chemistry of flotation separation and mineral dewatering.

This position focuses on developing new processes for flotation separation and dewatering of coal and minerals that are based on the properties, structures, and interactions of the involved interfaces in the presence of salts, surfactants, and polymers. It will have a broad responsibility including research project planning and management support for the project collaborators, industry partners, and others, providing general assistance to senior academic staff and research project execution.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in chemical engineering and/or related discipline and commensurate research experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

You should have a demonstrated expert knowledge and skills in laboratory experimental design, equipment setup, and maintenance of laboratory facilities and instruments combined with experience in advanced molecular modelling and simulation, experimental tools and setups such as solid bowls, bubble columns, sum-frequency generation spectroscopy, neutron reflectometry, and colloid and surface chemistry devices.

We are seeking someone with the ability to actively participate in discussion, presentation and to write detailed reports and journal papers efficiently and succinctly and can demonstrate evidence of a contribution to research, including successful external grant applications.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for 3 years at Academic level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $95,771- $99,362 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $112,052 - $116,253
