We now have a full time role with flexible working arrangements available for a eResearch Software Support Officer on a fixed term basis to 31 December 2020. This role can be located in Townsville, Cairns or depending on the surrounding circumstances, there is a potential for this to be a remote work opportunity ($75,723 - $82,015 p.a plus 17% super).

What you can accomplish in the role

You will be responsible for the maintenance and support of a range of research computing tools and web services that are in active use at James Cook University (JCU). Reporting to the Online Technologies Manager within the eResearch Centre, this opportunity involves developing and upgrading computing environments, programming research applications and implementing solutions to support research at JCU.

You will be confident in your ability to use various programming languages and may require learning new languages depending on the application. As a strong communicator, you will thrive in a role that requires effective liaison directly with stakeholders and users in the JCU research community to gather requirements in order to develop, maintain and deliver software systems.

 

What you will bring to the role

To ensure your success, it is essential to have a relevant qualification in computer science, information technology or computational science and/or demonstrated experience working effectively with common web application programming languages, tools, and protocols especially: Python, JavaScript, PHP, HTML and CSS .

You will be able to confidently work with common server environments, such as Linux/cloud platforms, remotely manage systems via shell/command line, and configure web servers web (Nginx/Apache). You will also have experience working with version control systems, particularly Git.
