Senior Director Commercial Engagement – Physical Sciences

Located primarily at the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, UniQuest is the critical link between the world-leading research that takes place within the University, and the organisations seeking valuable IP to take to market.

As Senior Director, Commercial Engagement you will lead the key vertical of Physical Sciences, driving and implementing a strategy, focused on generating sustainable and diverse deal flows from the Physical Sciences team.

The key aspects of the role are:

  • Leadership and management of a high-performing group, providing coaching, guidance, and direction towards achieving individual, team and business objectives;
  • Business development – implementing a relevant sales and venture investment strategy and ensuring that the deal flow is sustainable from short, medium and long-term perspectives;
  • Stakeholder engagement - skillfully manage relationships and interactions, ensuring a collaborative and collegiate approach is taken by the team to deliver the best client experience. In addition, you will build relationships with senior UQ management built on mutual respect, particularly within relevant Faculties, Institutes and research partners, in order to deliver outcomes and impact for the broader UQ context and community.
  • Intellectual property pipeline building – maintaining full accountability for the building of a pipeline of discoveries, patent applications and deal opportunities.

You will be tertiary-qualified in a field relevant to Physical Sciences (for example, engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry), and have solid local and international industry networks. You can display a strong track record of deals (eg. licenses and/or start-ups), a good knowledge of university research management, and high caliber leadership skills, displaying an inspirational and hands-on leadership approach.
