The Role

• Fixed Term (until December 2019), Part Time (18.75 hours per week)
• $33,144 to $44,888 pa (plus Super)
• Albury-Wodonga, Dubbo, Orange or Wagga Wagga

The Indigenous Research and Engagement Associate will join the research team at the Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health (UDRH). In this role they will support research conducted by Three Rivers' staff to achieve these commitments in practice and produce high quality research focusing on three key themes:

• Pathways into health professions education for Aboriginal people
• Factors for progress and success for Aboriginal people in health professions education
• Retaining and progressing careers of Aboriginal people in health professions

The successful applicant does not need to have prior experience in conducting research, however, they should have a strong interest in developing research skills. Suitable opportunities for professional development and research capacity building can be provided.

To be successful you will have:

• Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander with thorough working knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and societies and demonstrate the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively within this environment
• Relevant tertiary degree (health, social sciences, education, social work or other relevant discipline)
• Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships, networks and relationships to achieve professional and team objectives
• Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively and independently in a large complex academic setting, including the utilisation of current and emerging technologies

The Three Rivers University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) is a newly established UDRH based at Charles Sturt University in the Riverina and Central West region of New South Wales. The Three Rivers UDRH provides an opportunity for academic staff committed to educating a future rural health workforce.

The key activities of the UDRH are:

• Raising the aspiration and success of Indigenous and rural students from the outer regional and remote footprint of the UDRH;
• Growing capacity for collaborative quality community-led rural clinical training, particularly in smaller regional communities and across expanded practice areas such as disability, aged care, mental health and primary care;
• Evaluating the activities of the UDRH, researching rural health workforce capabilities and trialling approaches to service delivery to enhance the health of rural Australians; and
• Fostering the development of future rural health capabilities by developing new multidisciplinary resources and training programs.
