How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

The Educational Leader is a key member of the Children’s Services leadership team and has the responsibility of providing an environment that is safe and provides a rich and diverse range of experiences which promote learning and care.

The Educational Leader is responsible for:

  • In conjunction with Centre Coordinator, implementing high quality children’s educational programs, responding to individual strength, interests and needs of children and families
  • Demonstrating the National Quality Standards through implementing and practicing all elements in each quality area
  • Providing supervision, direction, pedagogical leadership and on the job training to employees in Children’s Services team.

This role will also partner with the Centre Coordinator to undertake the day-to-day operational responsibilities of the centre. In the absence of the Centre Coordinator, this position may be required to provide leadership for the centre and the education team. As a VIT registered teacher, in the absence of the Kindergarten Teacher on any given day, the Educational Leader will provide operational support to meet the legislative requirements for service delivery

What you will bring… (Selection criteria)

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • Approved Early Childhood Degree qualification; that is listed on the ACECQA approved qualification list
  • Current VIT registration
  • Thorough knowledge of the Early Years Learning Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework
  • Extensive experience working in early childhood services
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of contemporary early childhood learning and development theories and learning styles.
  • A strong understanding of contemporary curriculum approaches, specifically a thorough knowledge of the approved curriculum frameworks.
  • A sound knowledge of legislation governing the operation of children’s services, as well as a solid understanding of the quality areas under the National Quality Standard.
  • Ability to facilitate professional discussions and lead and support critical reflection in all aspects of program delivery across the service in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
