Research Principal (Transport Planning)

The Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) is looking to recruit a highly talented and experienced researcher for a Research Principal role, to work on innovative research projects in the field of sustainable passenger transport. The Institute is a participating unit in the UTS: Transport Research Centre, which fosters customer-centred transport technology research, teaching and learning programs undertaken by multi-disciplinary research teams from across various UTS faculties.

ISF carries out game-changing research, focusing on problem framing, strategic planning and service centered least cost planning approaches. By combining analysis of operational, behavioural and governance features relating to multi-modal transport networks, the key pillars of sustainability - economic, social, cultural and environment - are harmonised to create the research and technology innovation outcomes that distinguish ISF.

Established for 20 years, ISF works with thought leaders in government, the transport industry and community organisations, in Australia and internationally, to create change towards sustainable futures.

We are seeking applications from skilled and experienced candidates for a Transport Planner role to work on innovative research projects in areas that include:

  • Responsive Passenger Information Systems - a new class of passenger information system developed at UTS that uses robotic technology
  • Network planning and optimisation with a focus on least-cost planning options through enhanced operations and use of smart system technologies
  • Integrated transport and land-use analysis aimed at creating pathways towards more sustainable urban futures

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the development of a dynamic and critical research community based on peer learning and reflective practice
  • Contributing to the design and completion of high quality, innovative research projects by working in project teams
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for new research and the preparation of funding proposals consistent with ISF objectives and strategic planning

Outline of the main skills/experience required:

  • Demonstrated experience with network planning and optimisation
  • Transport planning (with transport operations experience preferred but not essential)
  • Customer-service based transport solutions
  • Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams on interdisciplinary research projects
  • Considerable experience in managing project teams from planning and delegation of work and managing budgets to the supervision of staff and students
  • Postgraduate qualifications related to transport planning or engineering

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $98,447 to $112653 pa Level B

This role attracts 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary. Employee benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.

This position is full-time and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for three years.
