About your environment

Since our establishment in 1936, Cancer Council Victoria has developed an international reputation for our innovative work in cancer research, prevention and support. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, we play a leading role in reducing the impact of all cancers on all people. Within the Behavioural Science Division, the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer (CBRC) conducts high quality applied behavioural research and evaluation to inform and influence cancer prevention policies, programs and services. Led by Professor Melanie Wakefield, the Centre has an international reputation as a key provider of cancer prevention evidence, with active programs of research underway in tobacco control, skin cancer prevention, obesity prevention, alcohol harm reduction and cancer screening.

Your opportunity

The Centre has an opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team. Reporting to the Principal Research Fellow, you will:

  • Design and conduct the statistical analysis of data from current studies in the Centre’s priority areas of cancer prevention and screening
  • Formulate, design and implement behavioural research studies assessing the impact of population-based cancer prevention communications and policies on attitudes and behaviours
  • Write manuscripts for publication from completed evaluations of cancer prevention mass media campaigns
  • Manage research projects according to best practice as required

All about you

We are looking for someone with:

  • A PhD in behavioural science or in a related discipline
  • A sound understanding of behavioural science methods and measures and experience in independent analysis of behavioural science or public health data.
  • The ability to conceive and formulate relevant research hypotheses, and to test these through statistical analyses.
  • Documented experience of writing, or contributing to, scientific papers for publication, and in presenting research to a range of audiences.
  • The ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with individuals and groups.

What we can offer you

This is a full-time fixed term position for 3 years, within a salary range of $95,000 to $115,000 plus superannuation, annual leave loading and the benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging and a meal entertainment card. We also offer a flexible and friendly work environment, social and wellbeing activities and a location close to public transport.
