About the role

The School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy is one of the University's most research-intensive schools, currently ranked in the top three in terms of external research funding. This position is based in UON's Priority Research Centre for Healthy Lungs, located at the cutting edge Hunter Medical Research Institute.

Proudly co-funded by the Lung Foundation Australia through the generous donation of the Manchanda family, you will be working with Professor Phil Hansbro, an internationally recognised research leader in the study of respiratory diseases. The focus of the work is on investigating the genomic and epigenetic basis of the development of lung cancer and progression into adenocarcinomas. Key activities will include:

  • running and analysing mouse models of lung cancer and assessing human tissues;
  • the use of array, bioinformatics, cellular and molecular techniques (in the field of respiratory disease);
  • supervising both undergrad and post-grad students;
  • development, management and delivery of research outputs for the project; and
  • preparation of internal and external research grant applications and manuscripts.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • completed (or submitted) a Doctoral degree;
  • relevant technical laboratory skills/experience and an ability and willingness to work with mice and human tissues, sample collection and analysis;
  • expertise in cancer (preferably lung cancer) related research;
  • a demonstrated ability to work independently with minor supervision to achieve research outcomes and meet deadlines; and
  • a demonstrated record of achievement in project management.

Academic Level A - $64,804 to $87,943 per annum, plus an employer superannuation contribution of 9.5%.
