Nursing School Education & Management Adviser - Bougainville

Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs. 

Make an impact on nursing education in Bougainville by sharing your skills with the Arawa School of Nursing.

Building on the work of the current VSA volunteer, you will help to strengthen professional and educational standards and effective management systems at the school. This will involve working alongside lecturers to enhance course delivery in-line with the approved curriculum. On a daily basis you will be supporting staff across a number of areas ie: course delivery covering theory and practice, student record keeping, planning, and evaluation etc. With a strong emphasis on mentoring

With a dual focus you will also help staff to improve operational systems and practices. This important work will support institutional strengthening by enabling staff to better manage administration at the school. Dependent on the skills of the volunteer, there is also scope within this assignment to contribute to the establishment of a professional development initiative at the institute.

This dynamic assignment offers an exciting opportunity to improve nursing education and health outcomes in Bougainville.

This is a 1-year assignment based in Arawa with the option to extend by mutual agreement.

For this assignment we are seeking a volunteer with:

  • Formal qualification in nursing, health worker education or public health
  • Experience working in a nurse education or health worker education role and/or health staff development setting
  • Experience in running courses, mentoring, capacity development, training and assessment
  • Sound knowledge of a related subject area (within the nursing discipline) combined with a broad subject background enabling contributions to teaching programme
