Research Assistant 

What do we do?

The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) was established to provide a coordinated and integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the South East Qld Region. The IUIH is a lead agency working in partnership with key stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the Council of Australian Governments ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives.

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be providing high quality research assistance to support projects across different research projects undertaken by IUIH. 

This role will assisting with two (2) large evaluation projects. These projects will involve a participatory action research methodology working with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders. Both qualitative and quantitative methods will be utilised to investigate the process of implementation of the model and how this relates to client engagement, continuity of care, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts of health and well-being.

About the role:

  • Support, assist and undertake the recruitment and interviewing of participants for relevant evaluation projects
  • Undertake data collection, preparation, management and analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative) relating to evaluation activities and research questions
  • Interviewing participants for the in-depth qualitative components of studies or collection, preparation and management of quantitative data
  • Engagement with local Aboriginal services, communities and research organisations while supporting capacity building and nurturing talent amongst Indigenous researchers and health services is a core feature of the Research Assistant role.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their leaders, respecting culture, values and ways of doing business
  • Previous experience with engaging with community groups and individuals
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Criminal History Check
  • Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or Community Services
