Research Assistant - iPSC Facility

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease and is one of the most respected heart research facilities in the world.

In 2016, the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute established the Victor Chang Innovation Centre comprised of seven cutting-edge facilities, with a focus on Stem Cells and Regeneration, Cardiogenomics and Gene Editing, Cardiac Imaging, Arrhythmias, Transplantation and Devices, and Metabolomics.

The new centre will attract world-class researchers and drive transformative research. It will allow scientists to access cutting-edge technologies and will foster collaborations with clinical researchers and technological experts, all with a shared vision – to reduce the incidence, severity and impact of heart disease.

The role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Assistant to work within the iPSC cell culture facility of the Victor Chang Innovation Centre. In this role you will be involved in generation and maintenance of human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSCs) and their differentiation to heart cells, utilizing our state-of the art robotics platform. Your strong background in mammalian tissue culture and other relevant disciples will enable you to use this expertise to develop new methods/applications to suit our workflow requirements. 

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Generation of human iPSC and their maintenance
  • QC validation of iPSC lines and differentiation into cardiac lineages
  • Method development for robotic platform
  • Equipment maintenance, generation of SOPs and SWPs
  • Interaction with multiple internal and external users

About you

Are you an accomplished researcher with a talent for hands-on experimental work and complex data analysis? We would like to meet you if you have:

  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Life Sciences
  • Demonstrated technical training in mammalian cell culture,
  • Experience in hESC or iPSC would be advantageous
  • Hands-on experience of hESC/hiPSC differentiation.
