We offer an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow, Computer Science($95,937 - $113,201) to join our world-leading institution at James Cook University (JCU). A full time, fixed term appointment to 31 December 2023, this position can be based at either the JCU Bebegu-Yumba campus in Townsville or the JCU Nguma-bada campus in Cairns.

 

What you can accomplish in the Role

The Research Fellow, Computer Science will develop models and software programs in disease simulation: specifically, mathematical modelling of emerging infectious diseases relevant to the Asia-Pacific region. As part of the Australian Institute for Tropical Health and Medicine (AITHM) you will contribute to research projects that improve tropical public health by developing a strong evidence base for healthcare. Encouraging collaborations across AITHM, JCU and other institutes, you will participate in other research projects, teaching activities and supervision of postgraduate students as well as presenting research at both local and international conferences.

 

What you will bring to the Role

An enthusiastic and motivated Scientist, you will have experience in a quantitative field such as: physics, engineering, applied mathematics, computational biology, clinical epidemiology, health economics, bioinformatics or biostatistics. With the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, you will produce high-quality code based on requirements and specifications worked out with other team members.  You are forward thinking, innovative and creative and can demonstrate an excellent publication record in peer reviewed journals and a proven ability to develop and lead research projects.
