About the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL)

NAL is looking for an enthusiastic and innovative researcher to work on world-leading research focussed on transforming the lives of people with hearing loss. This is an opportunity for an experienced and creative individual to be a key member in our Audiological Science team and collaborate with other NAL scientists, working together to perform cutting-edge research in hearing healthcare.

NAL is a world-leading research centre whose research has a worldwide impact on the management of hearing loss. Located in Sydney Australia, NAL is based in the Australian Hearing Hub on the Macquarie University campus.  NAL is the research division of Hearing Australia, a Statutory Authority under the Commonwealth Department of Human Services.

About the role

The successful candidate will be involved in a new project that aims to develop innovative methods and clinical tools to help hearing aid user better manage noise reduction features in their hearing devices. This research is conducted in collaboration with a world-leading industry partner, and it is expected to benefit hearing aid users around the world.

The key responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:

• Assisting in initiating, planning and executing research projects in accordance with NAL project procedures
• Performing hearing assessments in accordance with research protocols and professional standards.
• Managing research documentation and procedures, including contributing or taking a lead in writing experimental protocols and final reports
• Contributing to the development of new audiological science research ideas.
• Liaise with co-researchers, staff at hearing centres and external agencies regarding evaluations, research protocols, progress and outcomes to facilitate collaboration, consistent with NAL’s goals.
• Promote NAL and build relationships through contributing to high-quality publications of peer-reviewed journals, trade journals, and presentations at relevant conferences, as required.

The successful candidate will have:

• A post-graduate degree in Audiology
• Qualified practitioner full membership with Audiology Australia
• Experience in conducting audiology research studies
• The ability to contribute to the development of new ideas, and plan and execute new research projects.
