THE OPPORTUNITY

This position is responsible for: arranging the placement of pre-service teachers enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in accordance with the practical teaching requirements of each degree, including communicating; negotiating; analysing situations; interpreting policies and applying discretion to resolve problems related to pre-service teacher placement; improving the efficiency and accuracy of placement processes and developing and maintaining strong relationships with academic staff and teachers/coordinators in schools to enhance the placement of pre-service teachers and manage complex placement issues.

 

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Maintaining a thorough and up to date knowledge of issues affecting school placements and the teaching profession (generated within the schooling system, the University, VIT, ACECQA, ECA, DEECD, the Department of Justice and other organisations, including other universities and their Industrial agreements), and implement developed strategies to ensure the correct and appropriate placement of pre-service teachers.
  • Ensuring on-going positive relationships with schools in the region
  • Undertaking the placement of pre-service teachers in accordance with course regulations and Faculty requirements, monitor placement outcomes through written and verbal communication with staff in schools and Faculty academic staff.
  • Communicating relevant Professional Experience placement information to both schools and pre-service teachers through, for example, fax, mail outs, emails, on-line, web-based and phone contact.
  • Ensuring the implementation of all University policies that relate to the areas for which the position is responsible, in particular, those relating to equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, risk management, staff development and staff performance planning and review.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • A tertiary qualification and relevant experience within an educational setting, preferably as a teacher, or a qualification in office administration/management.
  • Relevant administrative experience gained within an educational context.
  • Effective organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Knowledge of the independent and government school systems and current education policies and issues.
