The Institute for Learning Sciences & Teacher Education (ILSTE) is a national research institute hosting a team of internationally-renowned researchers and international scholars undertaking nationally-funded research studies with a range of industry-funded partners.  ILSTE’s research focuses across six areas of research concentration:

• Assessment, evaluation and student learning
• Sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics in education
• Early childhood futures
• Educational semiotics in English and literacy pedagogy
• Teacher education, quality and professional practice
• Data analytics and learning interventions

The Research Fellow will contribute to the research enterprise of the ILSTE and work within a high performing research team of senior academics within a program of priority research.  You will contribute by developing and applying innovative statistical and data analytics methods using large-scale longitudinal data to generate new knowledge for improving the learning outcomes of young people, particularly those experiencing disadvantage. Methodological areas of research interest include multilevel models for longitudinal data, adjustments for missing data, item response models and predictive analytics.

More specifically the successful applicant will:

• Contribute to publication outputs through lead and co-authorship in international peer-reviewed outlets.
• Contribute to funding applications in the area of research speciality
• Undertake advanced statistical analysis of longitudinal and hierarchical data for existing projects and preparation of reports of analysis and results
• Assist with the planning and management of research projects
• Actively contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute

Early career researchers are welcome to apply. The successful applicant will need to have:

• PhD in one or more of the following relevant research fields: education or social science with a high statistics content; statistics with a focus on education research.
• Evidence of strong research achievement as demonstrated by publication in high quality peer-reviewed journals and other publications including chapters in books with prestigious publishing houses.
• Demonstrated success in working within a research team on competitive grants and/or research consultancies.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a research team and independently on solo, co-authored and research team publications
• Demonstrated experience with the application of hierarchical linear mixed models, including multilevel models and other advanced statistical modelling methods (such as econometric methods) for analysis of longitudinal and clustered data.
• A high level of oral and written communication skills.
• Evidence of ability to show commitment with integrity to the Catholic Identity, Mission and ethos of the University
