Join CSIRO Education & Outreach as an Education Specialist within the New Programs Team and work as part of a multi-skilled team to develop and deliver the GFG Foundation Student Programme in Tahmoor NSW. 

This is a satisfying opportunity to deliver a 20-week programme curriculum for two secondary school student cohorts. You will be responsible for delivering training to industry mentors and providing ongoing support of mentor participation in the programme. You will be part of a collaborative group, where you will offer support to colleagues for the expansion of the programme to other locations.  

As the Education Specialist, you will be part of the excitement and fully involved, being required to travel weekly to Tahmoor, NSW, during the delivery period of the programme. The role may also require additional intrastate or interstate travel for other GFG Foundation Student programme delivery and stakeholder engagement meetings/events. 

Your duties will include:

•  Establishing, maintaining, and fostering ongoing and culturally respectful relationships with diverse cohorts of students, schools, teachers, families, programme stakeholders and the local community in Tahmoor to support engagement, uptake and delivery of the GFG Foundation Student Programme.
• Coordinating the delivery of the programme, including all necessary preparatory activities for the successful delivery of the programme, all sessions, and post-session follow ups.
• Looking for opportunities to improve and further develop the inquiry-based STEM programme based on the STEM Skills Mastery Model.
• Providing opportunities for students to connect to CSIRO research, and the work of GFG Alliance and local industry, highlighting potential career pathways.
• Providing training and support to volunteer STEM/industry professionals (mentors) and teachers, ensuring they understand their responsibilities for working safely with young people. Ensuring all volunteers and affiliates comply with child safety requirements and have the required Working With Children Checks in accordance with CSIRO’s Child Safe Policy.
• Participating in regular team meetings and stakeholder engagement meetings as required.

Location: Sydney, regional locations in NSW close to Wollondilly Shire or Canberra, ACT
Salary: AU $89,680 - $101,459 plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term until 31 December 2025. Full Time or Part Time hours (from 0.6 FTE)

To be considered you will need:

• A tertiary qualification in STEM, STEM Education or science communication or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated experience delivering or developing education programs or resources, including broad experience working with secondary school students, teachers and/or STEM/industry professionals, and an understanding of the Australian Curriculum and issues facing school STEM education.
• High level written and oral communication skills in a variety of formats including digital delivery for a range of stakeholders and audiences. 
• Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment; including the ability to establish and maintain strong and productive relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, successfully adapting to changing circumstances as well as the ability and willingness to find workable solutions to complex problems and resolve complaints using creativity, reasoning, past experience and sound judgement. 
• Demonstrated experience working with and supporting the wellbeing of young people who are, from a culturally diverse background, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islande, living in out-of-home care and marginalised due to socioeconomic status.
