CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship in Climate Risk
CSIRO acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, sea and waters, of the area that we live and work on across Australia. We acknowledge their continuing connection to their culture and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. View our vision towards reconciliation
CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.
CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Geophysical Fluids team to conduct research on "Causal inference in high-dimensional multi-scale systems". The CERC Fellow will work closely with senior researchers from Data61 and Environment Business Unit to develop novel methodologies for feature selection, causal inference and prediction, combining optimization and time series analysis methods with Bayesian machine learning in computationally efficient frameworks.
The fellow will research, design, develop and apply new algorithms for causal inference to infer the impact of changes to the physical climate system on the wider socio-economic and security domains. This research will address challenges concerning uncertainty quantification and propagation of climate risks associated with implementation of particular emissions pathways via integration and implementation of time series analysis and optimization methods with machine learning. It is expected that the solutions developed by the fellow will directly contribute to ClimRISK: an integrated software platform for modelling multi-sector climate risks being developed by CSIRO in collaboration with Microsoft.
