The Opportunity

  • Do you have a PhD in quantum technology, quantum computing, machine learning, compiler design, or software engineering?
  • Want to join the Quantum Technologies Future Science Platform?
  • Join CSIRO – Australia’s leading scientific research organisation!

CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

The Quantum Technologies Future Science Platform (QT-FSP) aims to establish and grow capacity in quantum technology research and development at CSIRO and is part of a larger strategic investment in Quantum at CSIRO. The opportunity we are seizing leverages existing expertise while extending into new, uncharted areas of discovery in quantum science and technology.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have an interest in industrial application of quantum technologies, in solving problems that may have real commercial value, and in making an impact to better the lives of Australians. These areas of focus represent the biggest challenge facing the evolution of “quantum technologies” into a bona fide industry: identifying applications where quantum advantage can be achieved.

Your duties will include:

  • Carrying out innovative, impactful research on the development of an innovative quantum software platform that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Recognising and utilising opportunities for quantum algorithms, security and applications, and progress opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research.
  • Build strategic relationships within the Quantum Technologies FSP, as well as industry and academic partners.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues within the team, FSP, and across CSIRO.

Location: Melbourne, VIC
Salary: AU$89k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: Specified term of 3 years
Reference: 85683

To be considered you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as quantum technology, quantum computing, machine learning, compiler design, software engineering and/or similar. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
  • A sound history of publication in peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports on quantum computing, quantum inspired technology, machine learning, and/or quantum simulations.
  • Experience in implementing research protypes relevant to quantum computing, software engineering, and/or quantum algorithms is highly regarded.
