CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

This position will form part of the Immune Resilience Future Science Platform (FSP). The Immune Resilience FSP aims to harness the fundamental understanding of the immune system to develop novel strategies and platforms that will build resilience in animals to combat disease and parasite challenges.

The successful candidate will lead the development of novel methods for analysing the immune response to both infectious disease and vaccination. By understanding the intricacies of immune development and regulation, the Fellow will support the design and development of vaccines to diseases such as African Swine Fever.

Your duties will include:

• Leading the development of advanced techniques for assessing the immune response to infection and vaccination against African Swine Fever
• Implementing the advanced immune analysis to aid in vaccine design and determine the correlates of protection
• Using single cell multi-omics to develop a research platform for non-laboratory animals.
• Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.

Salary: AU$89k - AU$98k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

• A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as immunology, microbiology, virology, or similar. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (full-time equivalent) of postdoctoral research experience.
• Experience in the development of single cell multiomics studies.
• Experience in bioinformatics pipelines and/or data science.
• Experience with standard molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches (e.g. analysis of protein/nucleic acid sequences, design of expression plasmids, etc).

Eligibility

To enter a CSIRO site, CSIRO will require you to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (or show a valid medical exemption from vaccination).
