One of the largest science and technology libraries in Australia, CSIRO Library Services delivers innovative information services and resources to support CSIRO research. We provide the tools and training to allow staff to access and use information faster and smarter, and we are a key enabler of CSIRO research outcomes and increased citation rates. Teams work in a distributed environment to support researchers located across Australia and overseas. The library is entering an exciting phase as we begin implementation of a new two-year plan.

The Library Outreach team provides high value consultancy and training services to all areas of the organisation, maintains the publications repository, and manages our online presence. Members of the team are geographically dispersed across many of CSIRO’s sites in Australia.

As a member of the Library Outreach team, the Digital Communications Librarian is responsible for maintaining and developing the library website as an up to date and user centred gateway to our services and resources. The librarian will also prepare guides and other resources in effectively using library services, professional presentations to support the library team, informative social media and news items, and self-guided online training objects. The position will also deliver general reference and training to support the Library Outreach team as required.

Travel may be required to other CSIRO sites within Australia.

Your duties will include:

  • Develop, manage and continually review the library website and other tools ensuring that content and the structure is user-centred, up to date, and adheres to institutional standards.
  • Ensure that all outputs from the library are professionally produced and edited using consistent branding, styles and language suitable for a research organisation.
  • Prepare regular library news articles, blogs and other items in a variety of formats for multiple communication channels aimed at different audiences.
  • Design professional guides and learning objects in print, online and other formats to support a broad range of library services and resources applying text, images, video/audio and other media.
  • Support the library team by preparing templates and professionally styled documents, presentations and infographics in Word, PowerPoint and other applications.
  • Provide reference services in person, by phone and online using collaborative tools as required.

To be considered you will need:

Essential

Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.

Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in an area such as Librarianship or Information Management together with relevant experience in a research or academic library.

  • Demonstrated experience in creating, developing and managing digital channels such as websites, social media, and blogs. Ability to design professional infographics, guides, newsletters, and learning objects in print and online employing a variety of media formats.
  • Exceptional graphic design experience, writing and editing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent skills in using Microsoft Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) as well as content management systems such as Sitecore, WordPress, Confluence, LibGuides and Teams/SharePoint.
  • Track record in the delivery of high-quality customer-focused library services.
  • Experience in providing relevant reference services in an academic or research library.
