CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years of relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships aim to develop the next generation of future leaders of the innovation system.

The CERC Postdoctoral Fellow in HI Surveys and Galaxy Evolution will work on the open science questions in the field of ISM processes and galaxy evolution that will be furthered by the upcoming SKA-era surveys. Specifically, the focus of this position is aimed at studying the HI properties of low-redshift galaxies using observations from the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) WALLABY survey. Active engagement and participation in the ASKAP spectral line commissioning science teams is strongly encouraged.

Your duties will include:
  • In collaboration with senior research scientists, carrying out innovative, impactful astrophysics research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, yield novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Presenting results at major national and international conferences.
  • Assisting in the planning and preparation of research proposals and carrying out research investigations, requiring originality, creativity and innovation.
  • Recognising and exploiting opportunities for innovation and the generation of new theoretical perspectives, and progressing opportunities for the further development or creation of new lines of research.
  • Utilising design thinking methodology to plan and prepare research proposals and applying non-academic impact methodology to research projects.
