CSIRO Early Research Career (CERC) Postdoctoral Fellowships at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. CERC Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for three years or part time equivalent. 

As the Postdoctoral Fellow, you will work as part of the Australian e-Health Research Centre’s Ocular biomarker research team and be located in AEHRC in Parkville Victoria.

Your duties will include

  • Conduct research to develop a precision eye test for early detection of AD, this has the potential to improve diagnosis of AD and contribute to the development of better treatments, through testing of candidate therapies earlier in the development of the disease.  
  • Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents. 
  • Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.
  • Prepare appropriate conference papers and present those at conferences as agreed with your supervisor. 

Location:      Parkville, Victoria 
Tenure:         Specified term of 3 years or three years or part time equivalent
Salary:          AU$82K – AU$93K + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as medical informatics, health sciences or ophthalmology.
    • Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years (or part time equivalent) of relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in medical informatics, biomedical imaging and biomarker development.
  • Considerable experience with statistical data analysis. 
  • Demonstrated experience in research publications and grant applications.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including through peer reviewed journals and/or authorship of scientific papers, reports, grant applications, patents, and presenting at national and international conferences
  • A record of science innovation and creativity, including the ability & willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
  • A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, potentially regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.
