The Position

Postdoctoral Fellowships at CSIRO provide opportunities to scientists and engineers who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience.  These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.

Postdoctoral Fellows are appointed for up to three years and will work closely with a leading Research Scientist or Engineer in their respective field. They carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO with the possibility of novel and important scientific outcomes. They present the findings in appropriate publications and at conferences.

In this position, the successful candidate will implement deep learning techniques for neuroimaging analysis to help us develop scalable and harmonised tools for fast registration, segmentation and quantification of 3D medical images.

Your duties/responsibilities will include:

  • Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Develop innovative concepts, theories, tools and techniques related to the analysis, integration and processing of imaging and other medical data.
  • Assist with the identification and resolution of any problems in methodology, results, etc. to ensure the quality of our outputs
  • Undertake regular reviews of relevant literature and patents.

Location:      Brisbane QLD or Melbourne VIC
Salary:          AU $82K - $93K plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  • A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Biomedical or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field with a focus on medical imaging analysis. Please note: To be eligible for this role you must have no more than 3 years of relevant postdoctoral experience.
  • demonstrated ability to write grant proposals and evidence of money attracted from external funding bodies.
  • Demonstrated experience in medical image analysis and novel algorithm development (segmentation/registration/quantification).
  • Proven impact from Deep Learning using Convolutional Neural Networks in one of the existing frameworks (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras, Torch or MxNET).
