Professor and Director of Renal Medicine

Applications are invited for the Professor and Director of Renal Medicine. This is a joint appointment with Alfred Health and Monash University.

The Professor and Director of Renal Medicine will be responsible for leadership and ongoing strategic development of dialysis renal services across Alfred Health. The position will also include full involvement in all the renal services within Alfred Health incorporating the clinical management of inpatients admitted under the care of the unit and outpatients referred to the service, a consultative service to other units/departments within the hospital, the provision of a comprehensive acute and chronic renal dialysis service and support for the multidisciplinary kidney transplantation program. The appointee will also be expected to provide research and academic leadership in Renal Medicine, including leading an internationally significant research program, attracting grant funding and research higher degree students, and enabling and mentoring early career researchers. The appointee will also lead a program of teaching and training in renal medicine for medical students and post-graduate trainees.

Applicants must be legally qualified practitioners, registered or registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Demonstrable relevant knowledge and experience in in a major teaching hospital with substantial clinical experience in a specific area of Renal Medicine with demonstrated innovative capabilities is required as well as meeting Alfred Health requirements for credentialing and scope of practice in Renal Medicine.

The appointee will have outstanding communication skills including well-developed conflict resolution skills and ability to liaise well with other staff at all levels and national and international recognition for academic excellence as evidenced by publications and other scholarly achievements.
