About the opportunity

The Department of Government and International Relations is seeking to appoint a two-year, fixed term, level B Lecturer in Politics (Education Focused). Applicants with expertise in this area are welcome; however, relevant experiences in coordinating large first and second-year units in in political science and international relations, politics, political analysis, and popular culture and politics. Education focused roles are expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (70% teaching, 20% research, 10% governance).

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels
• undertake independent teaching in the discipline, area of expertise and/or related area
• contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the department, with a particular focus on politics and political analysis, including policymaking in political context, Australian politics, popular culture and politics
• supervise honours and postgraduate students.
• evaluate teaching and learning and apply learnings to improve practice and outcomes in the units coordinated
• contribute to the design and delivery of multidisciplinary work-integrated learning units and content
• work collaboratively where coordination of units involves across school/faculty cooperation with professionalism
• develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the school/faculty

About you

• a PhD (awarded) in politics, public administration, policy analysis or relevant fields
• demonstrated teaching ability and experience in politics, public policy, Australian politics, political analysis, popular culture and politics and evidence of teaching effectiveness such as student evaluations
• the potential to contribute to advanced level interdisciplinary programs
• demonstrated experience in supervising honours and postgraduate students
• evidence of contributing to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
• demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives in multidisciplinary work-related units such as micro-credential and professional education
• ability to develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the school/faculty
• ability to work collaboratively across school/faculty and with industry/public sector
