About the opportunity

The Department of Government and International Relations is seeking to appoint a level B Lecturer in International Relations (Education Focused). Applicants with expertise in any area of politics/political analysis are welcome; however, applicants with relevant experiences in coordinating large first and second-year units in including introduction to International Relations theory, intermediate international relations, and contemporary issues in international relations will be highly regarded. Education focused roles are expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (70% teaching, 20% research, 10% governance).

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels
• undertake independent teaching in the discipline, area of expertise and/or related area
• contribute to core teaching across the undergraduate Politics & International Relations curriculum and postgraduate units, in particular showcasing expertise in one or more of the following areas: IR theory, contemporary issues in international relations, Australian foreign and security policy
• supervise honours and postgraduate students
• evaluate teaching and learning and apply learnings to improve practice and outcomes in the units coordinated
• contribute to the design and delivery of multidisciplinary work-integrated learning units and content
• work collaboratively where coordination of units involves across school/faculty cooperation with professionalism
• develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the school/faculty

About you

• a PhD (awarded) in international relations, political science or relevant fields
• demonstrated teaching ability and experience in international relations theory, world politics, and foreign policy, and evidence of teaching effectiveness such as student evaluations
• demonstrated experience in teaching IR theory, contemporary issues in international relations, Australian foreign and security policy
• the potential to contribute to advanced level interdisciplinary programs
• demonstrated experience in the supervision of honours and postgraduate students
• demonstrated experience in working across disciplines
• evidence of contributing to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
• demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
• ability to develop and evaluate assessment materials which align with best practice under the supervision of more senior academic staff within the school/faculty
