About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a passionate Research Officer to join a research team that encourages progressive thinking as part of Pharmacology, School of Medical Sciences based at Camperdown campus.

Under the direction of the Chief Investigator you will work within a multidisciplinary team of researchers with interests in mental health, medicines, toxicology, epidemiology and biostatistics. You will be responsible for project management of the study, including organising meetings between the multi-institutional investigators, coordinating complex ethics submissions and preparing grant applications.

The incumbent will work closely with the Principal Investigator in maintaining the large study dataset, cleaning the data, conducting data analyses and keen a researcher will have the opportunity to use the rich dataset to carve out a project of their own.

You will play a crucial part in the “Health service and Medicine utilisation before suicide project: Optimising suicide prevention using population-based linkage of routinely collected data”.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications likely with Honours in relevant field such as Psychology, Public Health, Pharmacy, Health Sciences or Bioinformatics with relevant experience in the field of research
• experience in quantitative data analysis and large database management, with sound knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access programs and the ability to manipulate large datasets in Excel; experience working with SAS or R will be highly regarded
• extensive experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions and grant applications
• experience in carrying out scientific literary searches, and preparing literary reviews for further analysis
• numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking, and managing invoice payments and purchases

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills along with high-level attention to detail. They will also be able to work independently and as part of the team. You will also have working understanding and current knowledge of relevant aspects of Work Health and Safety policy and relevant legislation.
