About the opportunity 

We are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are looking for a dynamic Procedural Skills Coordinator to join our team at Westmead Clinical School.

As the Procedural Skills Coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination and/or teaching of medical students’ procedural skills sessions.

About you

• degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification with relevant work experience in a large complex setting
• experience delivering education programs preferably in a tertiary education environment
• current knowledge of clinical/procedural skills
• well-developed skills in clinical practice and teaching, including use of skills simulation in medical education
• experience in clinical event management
• demonstrated computer skills including MS Office

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, problem solving and prioritising skills.

Westmead Clinical School was established in 1978 and since then has been a key clinical school of the University of Sydney. The unique demography of Western Sydney, with a substantial population of socially disadvantaged people and its juxtaposition with a vibrant research environment, enrich medical student training and experience. Medical students who choose to study at Westmead can expect to graduate with a well-rounded clinical experience. Teaching is delivered by clinicians including academics, hospital specialists and private practitioners, in both hospital and community settings. The Clinical School has a reputation for the high calibre of its clinical teachers and tutors who are recruited for students in all years. A high emphasis is placed on research and education.

The Westmead Clinical School currently has approximately 60 students in each of the four years of the graduate medical program (Sydney Medical Program). During the first two years students are based on main campus, but spend two days per week here at Westmead Hospital participating in bedside and classroom tutorials delivered by consultants, academics, registrars and residents. Students in the last two years of the program (Stage 3) spend all of their time immersed in clinical activities, including a two-month rotation in Perinatal & Women's Health.

A large number of academics contribute to our teaching program. Many of these are experienced clinicians who work in busy environments and give their time generously to provide medical education for our students. Our program has also been enriched by involvement of staff from Nursing and the Allied Health professions. Westmead Clinical School has appointed over 400 affiliates with a strong focus on research and teaching.
