Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry

About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Medicinal Chemistry who will be part of a large dynamic research group in the Medical Foundation Building at University of Sydney. This role will be responsible for synthesising, characterising and testing of new drugs (especially thiosemicarbazone analogues and their different complexes) for their effects on cancer cells and in treatment of neurodegenerative diseases such Alzheimer’s disease. The study of these compound is an ongoing NHMRC-funded research project in Prof. Des Richardson’s laboratory.

About you

  • Recently awarded PhD (within 2 years of award) with strong Honours (H1 preferred or H2A) and outstanding undergraduate record in chemistry and biological sciences
  • Excellent expertise as a medicinal chemist in basic organic and inorganic chemistry synthetic procedures including metal complexation of ligands, processes of purification (e.g., recrystallisation) and also characterisation (mass spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, etc.).
  • Skills in the biological sciences that include biochemistry and possibly molecular biology (e.g., proliferation assays, western analysis, RT-PCR, etc)
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • High organisational skills and basic computer software utilitisation ie., WORD, EXCEL, Office, Corel Draw, etc.
