Higher Degree Research Administration Officer

  • Fixed Term, part-time (3 days per week) until the end of Dec 2019 and base salary $73K p.a prorata plus superannuation

About the opportunity 

The Higher Degree Research (HDR) Administration Officer will provide support to the Postgraduate Coordinator (Research) for all HDR student related processes within Sydney Nursing School.

This role performs general administrative duties under general direction including drafting standard documents, record keeping, typing, responding to routine queries, exploring matters and sourcing solutions for the work area. As the first point of contact for HDR students and academic staff involved in research supervision, this role requires sound administrative and organisational skills to coordinate and undertake a range of operational activities on a day to day basis.

The incumbent will also be responsible to coordinate the administration of HDR candidature including, international enquiries, application assessment processes, student progression and assessment management and the appointment and administrative support of research supervisors.

  • Certificate IV in Business Administration or equivalent with previous experience in a student or client facing role
  • experience in handling a wide range of enquiries and providing excellent customer service
  • high level accuracy and attention to detail with advanced level computer skills including MS Office Suite
  • demonstrated experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking and managing invoice payments and purchases

The successful candidate will also have strong problem solving, conflict resolution, relationship building and influencing skills along with working knowledge of research management associated software programs.

The Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School) is a School within a research intensive university and sits within the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Medicine and Health, enabling staff and students to engage in multidisciplinary approaches to health care education and research. The School’s main academic activities are teaching, research and scholarship together with practice and policy development working inter professionally with all health professions in each area of activity. We also provide advice and consultancy across many key areas of nursing and midwifery.

The focus of our scholarship is to improve health outcomes, the quality of care, and the health-related experience of people at times of vulnerability. Our educational philosophy guides all aspects of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation. Our pedagogic approach emphasises research-led teaching. We also recognise and respect our students as active, adult learners who join us to develop their competencies and capabilities for clinical practice and research.

The Research Support team provides support for School staff working in the research and research education areas including the collection of data and compilation of reports on the research and research education related activity within the School. This position provides operational and administrative support for Higher Degree Research students including assessment and progression, helping to improve the quality of the research student experience and attracting outstanding higher degree research students to the school. The position also plays a key role in the development of and provides support for research supervisors and the events and activities that enhance the research education experience of students and the School’s profile in this important area of its activities.
