About the opportunity 

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Oral Surgery to join the Sydney Dental School. The position involves the supervision of both graduate and postgraduate activities and ‘hands on’ clinical activity, at a high level of specialty expertise, is paramount to this role. Hospital-based academic and clinical activities involving in-patient and out-patient oral surgery care is the mainstay of the Specialist Oral Surgery training programme. This exciting and innovative appointment, based at the expanding Nepean Hospital in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, also offers an outstanding opportunity to exercise academic coordination and to lead commercial opportunities to enhance the research and teaching endeavours of the Dental School.

Excursions to rural hospitals and clinics are included in the postgraduate supervision and provision of patient care.

The position is amenable to the development of a personal specialist practice should you be accepted.

About you

  • A dental qualification registerable in Australia
  • Specialist registration in Oral Surgery which is recognised in Australia
  • Sound clinical experience in specialist Oral Surgery practice.
  • Experience in clinical supervision of students in their treatment of a wide spectrum of Oral Surgery patients
  • Demonstrable teaching experience in a university or educational setting and ability to demonstrate clinical procedures at a specialist level.
  • Capacity to devise research projects and to contribute to peer reviewed journals and literature in dental/oral surgery clinical education
  • A research record showing understanding of and experience in clinical and research governance and in particular evidence of actively engaging in research in the clinical setting
  • Demonstrated experience in academic leadership and management of staff
  • Demonstrable management skills with experience in secondary care teams
  • Postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related area.
