The Associate Director/Director – Educational Development will lead a new faculty strategic initiative that will transform the student experience in core units for our internationally regarded undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Commerce.  Addressing the challenges of teaching and learning at scale, this post will be the central hub for strategic pedagogical change, working with academic staff, professional staff support teams, students and the wider University to ensure the successful delivery of this initiative.  Led by the Associate Dean (Education) and working closely with the Associate Dean (Programs) and the Associate Dean (Student Life), this post will provide leadership, line management and direction for the up to ten academic and professional staff.  They will work closely with the School’s Educational Innovation team along with other Professional Services staff to effectively co-ordinate and implement complex educational change projects.  They will design staff training, academic reward and community engagement initiatives to better support the ongoing development of our teaching and learning community.  They will provide will provide leadership for the successful evaluation of the projects including supporting rigorous pedagogical and evaluative research and the dissemination of these findings to the School, the University and the wider sector.

  • lead, innovate, advise and support staff on educational change, primarily related to transforming large units of study
  • provide specialist pedagogical support for innovative approaches to education and assessment and the use of technology, social media and other digital education practices
  • lead a team of educational specialists, academics and researchers to deliver effective and impactful change
  • undertake research and publish in teaching and learning in higher education, preferably aligned with the evaluation of pedagogical initiatives
  • promote scholarship of teaching, learning and assessment in higher education, both internally and externally

To be a successful candidate at Level C you will possess:

  • a complete or near complete PhD in a relevant field
  • expertise in educational or academic development in higher education
  • experience in integrating and evaluating technology enhanced learning into higher education contexts
  • a demonstrated ability to build the capacity of academic staff to engage in innovative forms of teaching and learning
  • excellent relationship building skills with students and colleagues to effect systemic pedagogical change
  • experience designing and developing quality and engaging learning activities for university students, including the use of technology, social media or other digital practices
  • experience in leading programs of pedagogical change, including managing project deadlines, budgets and staffing resources
  • extensive knowledge of University, regulatory environment (TEQSA, threshold standards), accreditation requirements and assurance of learning processes
  • a research program including peer-reviewed publications, particularly in areas associated with learning and teaching, technology and/or assessment
  • a complete PhD in a relevant field
  • a sustained record of excellence in educational or academic development within the discipline, as evidenced through demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes, professional accreditation (such as Fellowship of the HEA or equivalent) and innovation
  • extensive experience of strategically integrating and evaluating technology enhanced learning into higher education contexts
  • a demonstrated ability to build the capacity of academic staff and educational leadership (such as Program Directors and Unit of Study Co-ordinators) to engage in innovative forms of teaching and learning and to successfully delivery pedagogical change projects
  • extensive experience in leading programs of pedagogical change, including managing project deadlines, budgets and staffing resources and supervising and/or mentoring others towards success
  • extensive knowledge of University, regulatory environment (TEQSA, threshold standards), accreditation requirements and assurance of learning processes
  • an internationally recognized research program including peer-reviewed publications and/or successful grants applications, particularly in areas associated with learning and teaching, technology and/or assessment.
  • a wide network of established relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders that can be leveraged to enhance the standing of education in the discipline, School, Faculty and University

To be a successful candidate at Level D you will possess:

  • a complete PhD in a relevant field
  • a sustained record of excellence in educational or academic development within the discipline, as evidenced through demonstrated impact on student learning, recognition through awards/prizes, professional accreditation (such as Fellowship of the HEA or equivalent) and innovation
  • extensive experience of strategically integrating and evaluating technology enhanced learning into higher education contexts
  • a demonstrated ability to build the capacity of academic staff and educational leadership (such as Program Directors and Unit of Study Co-ordinators) to engage in innovative forms of teaching and learning and to successfully delivery pedagogical change projects

At Level D (Associate Professor) (in addition to the above criteria)

  • maintain a national or international reputation for educational leadership, design and innovation
  • maintain a well-regarded and sustained record of educational or disciplinary research in high-quality national or international peer-reviewed outlets
  • make an outstanding contribution to governance and collegial life within the University (eg. by chairing School or Faculty committees, undertaking significant administrative positions or participating in University-level committees) especially in areas related to teaching and learning
  • develop, lead and collaborate on innovative initiatives and original contributions in teaching and learning and curriculum development beyond the University (eg. contributions to national efforts to enhance curriculum, work-integrated learning practices to increase engagement with the industry/profession)
  • contribute to the strategic direction of the Faculty/ School as articulated through the Faculty/ School's Strategic Plan/s or equivalent
