Postdoctoral Research Associate

About the opportunity 

The Save Sight Registries (SSR) provides a scientific platform for clinicians to conduct post-marketing observational studies by capturing data from real life practice. Their aim is to evaluate the clinical effectiveness, cost effectiveness and safety of emerging therapies, enabling clinicians to design ways to reduce the incidence of blindness. SSR offers modules which focus on outcomes for the treatment of common blinding eye diseases, including neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration (nAMD), Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) and Keratoconus, with audits for other conditions to be added in the near future.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate, supported by a philanthropic donation and known as the Kornhauser Research Associate, will focus specifically on the keratonconus module, which aims to reduce blindness from corneal disease.  The role will undertake the following activities and work closely with the Head, Eye Innovation Group, will provide support to:

 

  • drive the collection of real world evidence for the treatment of keratoconus;
  • assure quality of collected data;
  • contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts;
  • build a network of researchers working to understand and prevent visual loss from keratoconus;
  • contribute to the development of a collaborative health care approach to the treatment of keratoconus;
  • evaluate the impact of keratoconus on patients’ quality of life; and
  • foster excellence in the clinical management of keratoconus.


About you

  • PhD in a science, medical/biomedical science, visual science/orthoptics or related field
  • demonstrated experience in design of health research projects
  • demonstrated experience writing complex analytical reports and papers
  • familiarity with preparing submissions for the Ethics Committee
  • working knowledge of State and Federal privacy legislation with regards to database security and management of confidential information

Some experience in programming, particularly in R, and familiarity with ophthalmology or eye health information management would be highly advantageous.
