About the opportunity

The University of Sydney and Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) are seeking applications for the new conjoint position of Professor of Clinical Education and Director of the WSLHD Education Network, based at Westmead Hospital.

This exciting role will support the realisation of the LHD’s and the University’s shared vision to re-imagine healthcare in Western Sydney. The incumbent will have oversight of the WSLHD Education Network, which provides education and training for the 4500 nurses and midwives, 2,000 medical practitioners and 1,000 allied health professionals and students in each of these three clinical fields, who work within the LHD and will advise the LHD board and University on the future requirements of the health workforce and educational approaches to meeting these requirements. In relation to each principal educational program the successful applicant will be expected to develop a strong program of research, innovation and evaluation. This will support the LHD’s and University’s ambition to reimagine healthcare through innovation in clinical education and its integration into clinical care and research.

The University of Sydney is one of Australia’s leading universities. Its Westmead Clinical School and Sydney Dental School are located in the Westmead Hospital facilities. The University also offers education in Nursing, Allied Health and Pharmacy in collaboration with the hospital and the WSLHD. In addition to its established roles in pre-registration training of health professionals in Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health disciplines, the University is developing several new, post-registration courses.

WSLHD supports the health of over 1 million residents of Western Sydney, many of whom experience above-average levels of social deprivation, through a network of five hospitals and over 800 specialist services. The Professor and Director role will be based at Westmead Hospital, a leading teaching hospital in the LHD that is undergoing a $1.2Bn+ re-development in anticipation of doubling its clinical activity. In addition to the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University and Notre Dame University collaborate closely with the LHD in health professional education.
