About the opportunity 

The role of Research Administrative Officer is to provide high level management of application and administration processes relating to a range of external and internal research grant funding schemes, including the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The incumbent will provide advice to staff and students on University and funding body policies and procedures in relation to assigned research funding schemes while also working collaboratively with other members of Research Grants and Contracts to systematically review administrative procedures and suggest changes to ensure efficient service delivery. The fixed-term will run until 17 September 2018 and may be taken as a secondment.

  • demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise, and organise workload in a high volume environment while working to strict deadlines with minimal supervision
  • experience developing, implementing and reviewing procedures and policies; and interpreting policy and providing advice.
  • well-developed skills in using computerised systems, particularly PC based systems, word processing, spreadsheet and database packages

Candidates with experience administering complex grant funding schemes including application processes and compliance will be highly regarded.

The DVC Research Portfolio currently includes six groups that support the DVCR and researchers to achieve the University’s research goals:

  1. Research Strategy and Policy Framework coordinates policy advice and projects, and provides secretariat support to DVCR committees;
  2. Research Reporting, Analysis, Data and Systems develops and manages data capture and analysis, and coordinates development of IT systems to support business requirements;
  3. Research Development and Collaboration provides strategic and technical support to researchers applying for funding so as to optimise successful outcomes; and supports the development of collaborative research infrastructure and mechanisms to facilitate collaborative research initiatives.
  4. Research Grants and Contracts develops and manages systems for efficient and effective management of research funding applications, drafting, negotiating and entering in to research and related agreements and post-award requirements imposed by funding bodies and contractual obligations so as to optimise successful outcomes. 
  5. Research Integrity and Ethics Administration develops and manages processes for ethics approvals (human and animal) and Laboratory Animal Services. Oversees clinical trials governance and the management of research related complaints.
  6. Commercial Development and Industry Partnerships develops and manages processes for disseminating and transferring knowledge from University research, including protecting Intellectual Property and commercialisation.
